Tribute to Raymond Mays

This wall sculpture is a tribute to legendary British racing driver Raymond Mays, crafted from a fusion of stainless steel and Corten steel. Commissioned for a bar in his hometown of Bourne, the piece captures the dynamic spirit of man and machine in perfect harmony.

Rather than aiming for a literal representation, I wanted to evoke the essence of Mays in motion the fluid line between driver and car, the raw energy of speed, and the timeless elegance of racing's golden era. The stainless steel gives a sense of velocity and precision, while the rusted patina of Corten speaks to heritage, grit, and the passage of time.

The forms are intentionally abstracted lean, angular, and flowing to suggest momentum and connection, celebrating not just a man, but the legacy he left in British motorsport.
